Bitcoin falters as U.S. employment data improve... falls below $70,000
Over the weekend, Bitcoin prices dropped below $70,000 as improved U.S. employment figures dampened investor sentiment. However, the currency is showing signs of recovery after the weekend.
As of 7 AM (KST) on the 10th, according to the global cryptocurrency market site CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin is trading at around $69,745, up 0.53% from 24 hours ago. Ethereum's price has risen 0.95% from the previous day to $3,713.
After a sharp drop from around $71,000 to $69,000 in the early hours of the 8th, Bitcoin struggled to rebound and remained stagnant over the weekend.
The industry views this as a result of weakened investor sentiment due to diminished expectations for an early cut in U.S. interest rates. On the 7th (local time), the U.S. non-farm payroll jobs for May increased by 272,000 from the previous month. Positive U.S. employment figures are expected to lead to higher inflation rates, negatively impacting the Federal Reserve's decisions on interest rate cuts.
However, Bitcoin began to gradually rebound from the evening of the 9th, indicating that it is emerging from such shocks.
Meanwhile, at the same time, Bitcoin is trading at around $71,056 (approximately 98.13 million KRW) on the South Korean Won exchange Bithumb. The so-called 'Kimchi Premium,' where Bitcoin trades at a higher price in South Korea, is about 1.9%.
